I'm about to get a good reamer for bridge pin holes and I'm curious to know what you all use, 3 or 5 deg? I expect I'll stick with unslotted pins.
Not much difference, but I've been using 5 degree pins because the ebony/pao SM pins are cheap and sound good. Theoretically, 3 degree pins should have great withdrawl resistance, but the fit in a material like wood pretty much makes it a toss-up. Which reamer is cheaper?
They're about the same. Is there a difference in attaining consistent pin depths? Clearance on the small end for ball ends is tighter on the 5 deg ones. Also wondering about selection, is it better for either one?

If you want to use unslotted pins you might want to go with 5 degree because SM has 5 deg unslotted, and most of the other places that sell the 3 deg pins have only slotted pins.

Looks like two good points favoring 5 deg. Thanks, Todd & Paul!
